About: Ashoka University is a private university with a focus on liberal arts and sciences. It is located in Sonipat, Haryana, which is about 50kms from New Delhi. It was established in 2014 by efforts of 70 eminent personalities which include the likes of Ashok Trivedi (Co-Founder of iGate), Dilip Shanghvi (founder Sun Pharma), Nirmal Jain (founder India Infoline), Sanjeev Bikhchandani (naukri.com, shiksha.com) and Jaithirth Rao (founder MphasiS).

Each student needs to take a mandatory foundational course, majors, minors, co-curricular and optional concentrations.

Foundational Courses:

The University requires each student to take 9 Foundation Courses. Each of these courses is mandatory. These are Introduction to Critical Thinking, Great Books, Literature and the World, Indian Civilizations, Environmental Studies, Mind and Behaviour, Economy, Politics and Society, Mathematical Thinking and Principles of Science.

Majors:

The university offers either a Pure Majors or Interdisciplinary Majors. A Major is the subject in which a student will earn a Bachelor’s degree. The Interdisciplinary Major goes beyond the traditional boundaries of disciplines and departments to give students an opportunity to combine multiple academic interests into a single degree programme.

- Computer Science (B.Sc. Hons.)
- Economics (B.A. Hons.)
- English (B.A. Hons.)
- History (B.A. Hons.)
- Mathematics (B.Sc. Hons.)
- Philosophy (B.A. Hons.)
- Physics (B.Sc. Hons)
- Political Science (B.A. Hons.)
- Psychology (B.A. Hons.)
- Sociology/Anthropology (B.A. Hons.)

A minimum of 12 courses are required to complete a Major in a subject.

Interdisciplinary majors offered:

- Computer Science and Entrepreneurial Leadership (B.Sc. Hons.)
- Mathematics and Computer Science (B.Sc. Hons.)
- English and Creative Writing (B.A Hons.)
- Economics and Finance (B.Sc. Hons.)
- Economics and History (B.A.Hons.)
- English and Media Studies (B.A. Hons.)

- Politics, Philosophy and Economics (B.A. Hons.)
- Politics and Society (B.A. Hons.)

16 courses are required to complete an Interdisciplinary Major.  Undergraduate students at Ashoka University will have to declare their Major at the end of their third semester

Ashoka University has specific policies for particular disciplines/courses for students who wish to Major or Minor in some of the disciplines.  Refer Eligibility section for details.

Minors:

Students are encouraged to consider declaring a Minor in addition to their Major. To qualify for a Minor, students must take 6 courses (24 credits) in a programme outside their field of Major specialisation.

Minors at Ashoka University include:

- International Relations
- Media Studies
- Performing Arts
- Visual Arts

Concentration

The Concentration will consist of four 4-credit courses (or courses totaling 16 credits) in that subject, at least two of which (or courses totaling 8 credits) must be 200-level or above.  The Concentration can be completed either by the end of the 3-year degree or during the +1 year.

A Concentration can be completed in pure Major and Minor programmes.

Co-curriculars:

Students have to take 2 Co-Curricular Courses as part of their graduation requirements; in any semester, a student can take a maximum of 1 Co-Curricular Course.

Admission Criteria
Admissions are carried out in 4 Rounds/cycles

Each round consists of 3 stages:

Stage1:

  1. Application submission (Academic scores. ACT/SAT scores, Personal Essays, Recommendation, Non-academic engagement)
  2. Assessments (Ashoka Aptitude Assessment, On-the-spot Essay)

Stage 2: Interview with panel (only of shortlisted candidates from Stage 1)

Stage 3: Decision & Financial aid

Fee:
All amounts are annual.

- Tuition fee: Rs. 9.27,000
- Residence Cost: Rs. 1,81,000
- Admissions Fee of INR 50,000 at the time of acceptance of the Offer of Admission
- Refundable Security Deposit of INR 75,000 (Security Deposit of INR 50,000 and Meal Cost Deposit of INR 25,000) at the time of acceptance of an Offer of Admission.
- Total Year 1: Rs.  11,08,000

The annual fee is subject to revision in consonance with inflation. In the last three years, our fee has gone up by approximately 5% to 8% annually. However, this percentage is not fixed and is subject to change.

Financial aid:
Financial aid is assessed entirely on the basis of the financial standing of the student’s family.   There is no merit-based aid available.

Financial aid is waived from 25% to 100% depending upon a candidate’s ability to pay.  This is assessed based on various financial resources available to their immediate family, including current income, savings, investments, and education loans , to finance the expected educational cost.
